We are proud to announce our upcoming involvement in presenting Stamford Downtown’s annual Art in Public Places, a community event in Stamford Downtown, Connecticut. Since 1994, Stamford’s annual outdoor sculpture exhibition has attracted local and regional audiences. Each year, the summer-long event promotes Stamford’s growth as a regional tourism destination and fosters art appreciation in the diverse community.

This year, the exhibit will showcase Timeless – The Works of Seward Johnson, a collection of lifelike painted bronze sculptures by Seward Johnson, a renowned American artist. Johnson is known for his trompe l’oeil technique. French for “deceive the eye,” trompe l’oeil incorporates realistic imagery, creating the illusion that objects exist in three dimensions. The illustrating style depicts objects in precise and authentic detail.

Our involvement with events, residents, and visitors in Stamford has become a major priority. Since our Courtyard Stamford Downtown opened last year, we’ve become close partners of Stamford Downtown. In late 2017 we hosted a VIP grand opening event for Bar Zepoli, a New York-style Italian bar and grill, on the ground floor of the Courtyard. As we pursued additional opportunities in the local commercial real estate market, adding a Residence Inn by Marriott property and multifamily housing development Park Square West,  we looked for ways to participate in local traditions. This led to our heavy involvement in Timeless – The Works of Seward Johnson. We’re overjoyed to be presenting the event.

Timeless – The Works of Seward Johnson will feature one monumental piece and 35 life-size sculptures representing two of Johnson’s widely known collections, Celebrating the Familiar and Icons Revisited. In Celebrating the Familiar, Johnson’s sculptures represent ordinary people engaged in everyday activities.

Johnson’s iconic Forever Marilyn sculpture will be the centerpiece of his Stamford exhibit

Headlining Johnson’s Icons Revisited collection is Forever Marilyn, the 26-foot-tall and 30,000-pound monumental sculpture detailing Marilyn Monroe’s memorable pose from The Seven Year Itch. Stamford is the sixth city in the world to host Forever Marilyn.

The Timeless – The Works of Seward Johnson exhibit will run from June through August and Johnson’s pieces will be placed around the Stamford Business Improvement District boundaries on sidewalks, street corners, and in surrounding parks.

Join us in kicking off Johnson’s exhibit on Wednesday, June 6 at The Palace Theatre for an opening night celebration! Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served and guests can enjoy trolley tours through Stamford to view Johnson’s sculptures. For more information on the grand opening, visit stamford-downtown.com/events/timeless-the-works-of-seward-johnson.

We are ecstatic to join Stamford’s community in presenting this wonderful art exhibit, open to locals and visitors all summer long! We look forward to working with Stamford Downtown again in the near future. The city holds great value for our firm and is home to some of our most treasured properties. And now let the summer festivities begin!
