The Palmier Foundation goes above and beyond for InterVol

The much anticipated Marine Corps Marathon took place on Sunday, October 22, and The Palmier Foundation continued its purpose by supporting the event, proudly donating $71,600 to InterVol. This significantly surpasses our original goal to raise $26,200.

We reached $26,200 shortly after announcing our pledge. The Palmier Foundation then matched this amount, and received additional funds thanks to the generosity of our good friends Sal LeCesse, CEO of LeCesse Development Corp. and Bob Morgan, CEO of Morgan Management. Over the course of 100 days we were blessed with a total of $70,100. On Saturday, October 21, Daniel Palmier presented InterVol’s team with a check while celebrating at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, VA. Afterwards we were excited to receive an additional $1,500 in donations!

“This incredibly generous donation from The Palmier Foundation provides a tremendous opportunity for InterVol to continue its mission and connect the world’s neediest to materials, people and opportunity,” said Nicole Jones, Director of InterVol. “In the next month alone InterVol will ship massive containers of medical supplies to Puerto Rico, Nigeria, Liberia and to Uganda. It’s only because of The Palmier Foundation’s generosity that we’re able to continue shipping medical supplies to those less fortunate.”

Thanks to the supporters of InterVol’s team of 54 runners who participated in the Marathon, the organization beat its fundraising goal of $75,000 and raised $111,129.55.

InterVol’s team of runners gathered tremendous support from donors, exceeding their fundraising goal

InterVol, a not-for-profit based in Rochester, New York, works to recover viable unused medical supplies from hospitals and clinics and distribute them to those in need. To date, InterVol has shipped supplies to 75 countries around the world. In addition, each year InterVol supports multiple medical mission trips to countries in dire need of healthcare.

My friend and Notre Dame colleague Dr. Ralph Pennino founded InterVol with Dr. Tim O’Conner in the late ‘80s after observing a desperate need for new medical supplies while doing his own volunteer work in developing nations. The organization has grown not only in the amount of supplies it provides, but also in the medical services it offers.

Our donation will help InterVol expand their two main programs, Recovery of Unused Medical Supplies (RUMS) and Volunteer Medical Professionals (VMP). RUMS and VMP work in tandem to improve healthcare in developing countries and communities struck by disaster. These programs are of special importance now, due to the devastation caused by the recent hurricanes in the Caribbean and Puerto Rico. Since September 1, InterVol has shipped over $1 million worth of medical supplies, water, diapers, and other toiletries to the Caribbean and parts of the southern United States for hurricane relief.

The Palmier Foundation’s donation will help InterVol ship supplies to people in need across the globe

“InterVol is an incredible organization and a longtime charitable partner,” said Daniel Palmier, CEO of UC Funds. “I’m proud of our entire team for raising a sum that will greatly impact their mission, and thankful to everyone who contributed. The hurricanes have upended many lives, and knowing this donation will aid in recovery for those individuals, along with many others, is extremely gratifying.”
